“Reflecting on Place”
We live in an amazing part of the world, the Whitsundays are both beautiful and wild, calming and adventurous, safe and daring all at the same time. Place is an integral component for establishing identity and harbours physical, historical and cultural idiosyncrasies that shape who we are and reflect what is important to us. Artists who explore place as a theme in their art are often reacting to particular sites, scenes or experiences in their everyday life or are retracing the impressions or emotions of place from memory. Place can be communicated through the connection of nature with humanity, through symbiotic relationships or through diversity and it can be public or personal. This exhibition is about the ‘celebration’ of this magnificent place where we all live, work and play.
